Our Review

4.5 STARS
In the Fields is such a touching book, it will touch your heart in so many ways and leave you with a smile on your face.  In the beginning of the story you meet a very young girl named Caroline.  She wakes up every morning and makes her momma and daddy breakfast and takes her dog out.  Caroline comes from a small town where the blacks and the whites are from different sides of the track and do not mix.  Caroline’s home life isn’t one that would be traditional.  Her daddy is a drunk and her mommy has other things to do than raise her daughter.  The only person she has is Isaiah. Isaiah is her school friend and they become close over time, they go through so much together.  Caroline is truly one of the strongest characters I have ever read about.  Certain heartbreaking and gut wrenching circumstances force her to move away from her home to an unknown city.  Moving away was bitter sweet.  She left her Isaiah, but met some amazing life long friends.  Through the years she finds forgiveness to those around her, love, trust, and the comfort and support she so desperately deserved.

It’s really hard to write this review without giving away major points of this story, but we truly loved this book.  It’s hard to imagine and wrap your head around the fact that these issues weren’t that long ago.  It’s sad that interracial couples had no chance at being together because of judgmental people. Do yourself a favor and pick up this book. It is truly remarkable and Willow Aster’s writing is beautiful.
